How Many Sarees Should You Own?
There is no correct number.
A useful saree wardrobe is based on your lifestyle, not a fixed quantity.
Instead of buying several sarees for the same type of occasion, build categories.
1. Everyday Sarees
Start with two or three comfortable sarees.
Cotton, cotton-silk or lightweight blends can work well.
2. Office Sarees
Add one or two refined sarees that can work for professional settings.
Neutral or deep colours are easy to repeat with different blouses.
3. Festive Sarees
Two or three festive sarees provide more variety.
Consider:
- Silk-Organza
- Tissue-Banarasi-inspired styles
4. Wedding Saree
At least one richer saree can cover weddings and formal celebrations.
Choose a timeless colour rather than a very trend-specific design.
5. Statement Saree
One dramatic saree can be useful for receptions and special parties.
Metallic tissue or a heavily detailed silk can fill this role.
6. Regional or Heritage Saree
Add one saree connected to a textile tradition you personally appreciate.
This could be Bandhani, Banarasi, Pashmina, or another regional style.
The Practical Wardrobe
A balanced collection might contain:
3 everyday sarees
2 office sarees
3 festive sarees
2 wedding sarees
1 statement saree
1 heritage saree
That is already a highly versatile collection.
Avoid Duplicate Purchases
Before buying another saree, ask:
Do I already own this colour?
Do I already have this fabric?
Can I wear it to a different occasion?
Can I style it with an existing blouse?
If the answer is no, the new saree adds more value to your wardrobe.
