How to Store Sarees When Wardrobe Space Is Limited
A growing saree collection can quickly become difficult to organise, especially when your wardrobe is small.
The solution is not simply stacking more sarees together. Different fabrics require different handling.
Sort Sarees by Fabric
Start by separating:
- Silk sarees-Cotton sarees-Organza sarees-Tissue sarees-Embroidered sarees-Everyday sarees
This makes it easier to choose the correct storage method.
Do Not Overpack
Overcrowding creates unnecessary pressure and deep creases.
Leave enough space to remove one saree without pulling aggressively on the others.
Fold Carefully
Heavy sarees should not be compressed under a large stack of lighter garments.
Place heavier pieces lower in a properly organised stack when appropriate.
Keep Moisture Away
Humidity is particularly important in regions with a humid climate.
Make sure sarees are completely dry before storing them.
Rotate Your Sarees
If a saree remains folded in exactly the same way for years, the crease can become more pronounced.
Refolding and rotating occasionally can help reduce repeated stress on the same fold.
Separate Embellished Pieces
Sarees with embroidery, sequins or textured embellishment can catch on neighbouring fabrics.
Keep them separated when possible.
Build a Practical Saree Wardrobe
You do not need a huge wardrobe to have variety.
A balanced collection can include:
- One elegant silk saree-One lightweight festive saree-One everyday saree-One versatile neutral saree-One statement colour-One wedding-ready saree
Good organisation makes a smaller collection easier to wear and maintain.
